Better than plastic surgeons

After going with the same look for some while now, I was ready to try something new. I went to search for suitable skins for my secondlife avatar and I stumbled upon Maximillion Grant’s designs. It was love at first sight.

If my avatar looked good before … It looks great now!

Even cartcart decided to get a new skin for himself too. Aren’t we a good looking couple? ๐Ÿ˜›

Speaking of avatars, there are loads of different looks in secondlife – the zany looking ones, the goddesses, the goths, the furries, to name a few.

Some may choose to design their avatars exactly as how they look like in real life. While there are some who design it to look as how they dream to be.

And there are those which doesn’t seem to fit in any category at all.

But the wonderful thing about avatars is that one can customise it however they like and start all over again if they aren’t happy with it.

To me, avatars, the same goes with 3D houses, are a reflection of a person’s personality. To see that there are so many different types of avatars make me feel heartened to see such a diverse community where people can share ideas, thoughts and emotions.

It’s truly fascinating.

The only thing that’s real is food

Lonelygirl15 isnt real, Emily isnt real … Julie isnt real … Who knows whats genuine on the net anymore. Regardless, they all made entertaining viewing.

The thing is, that the lines between reality and fiction now being blurred with companies using personal mediums such as blogs, myspace and youtube to bring their conception to life.

Sometimes its easy to spot out some of the idiosyncracies but in time its possible to have a work of fiction that seems to be so realistic that everyone would be confounded.

Maybe *I* might turn out to be a marketing concept too. Its possible right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

How getting my helmet stolen makes me love auctions

My helmet got stolen recently. It made me extremely upset when I came down to see it missing.

I wasย at my friend,ย Narima’sย place after a friend’s wedding. We spent the time talking, laughing and watching tv together. I noticed that it was getting a little too late, so I said my goodbyes and went off to the parking lot.

When I rode off, I realised that there was something missing. I wasn’t wearing my helmet. Where was it? I left it on the seat, now its gone! I freaked out.

Granted that it wasn’t very expensive. But the idea that someone would be so heartless enough to steal it was extremely upsetting to me.

A quick phone call to Narima soothed me a little.

But there wasn’t anything that I could do. A police report? My helmet was generic and did not have any special markings on it. Nothing much could be done anyways but to be more careful in the future.

Though I had a spare one, I still needed a helmet for my pillion, so I decided to go to Yahoo Auctions to scour for affordable helmets online. It has been a while since I last done any online auctioning. I remember that I had a blast of a time rummaging around for hidden treasures, then buying nice things and selling off of items.

After a few minutes of browsing, I found a relatively good and affordable one and bidded on it. After much anticipation, the rush of winning was there again. I saw the name of the top bidder – I won the bid!

The dealer suggested to do a meet up at the Caltex Petrol kiosk along Bukit Batok for the transaction. So we agreed to meet after my night class.

I usually filled up my scooter at the SPC Petrol Kiosk so I saw for the first time how it was at Caltex. It was impressively larger. In the cool night air, the place shone like a drive in movie theater. I saw men with suds, washing cars by hand and I went in the mart. There was a place where I could sit down, and have a cuppa. And I waited.

I didn’t have to wait too long, the dealer came soon-after. The transaction was done pretty speedily. I checked the condition of the helmet and handed him the money and we left.

Pretty easy.

I remember the things I used to get from Yahoo Auctions, things like the unused Fancl Facial Set, the Levi jeans, computer books which I used while studying computer science back then. All these would be more expensive if I bought it first hand.

Using that as a justifiable move, I could buy more items like a polarizer filter for my camera. It would be nice to take a nice, crisp blue sky instead of the grey shots that I keep getting. I wonder if I could get a suitable prime lens too.

And on that note, I could sell away some items too. Like the Estee Lauder perfume that I bought on impulse while attending their makeover session. I keep wondering why I bought it … I don’t even use perfume!

Anyone wants this?

Too bad I cant buy a new throat on Yahoo Auction

*cough cough cough*

A new throat would be nice.

Creative Vision M vs Sony MP3 Flash Walkman. Which will you choose?

At one point of time I wanted to get a Creative Vision M. It had remarkable specifications for an MP3 player – At 30 GB, it also had a LCD display where you can play movies and view images.

About $450 Singapore Dollars

I knew it would be useful for when storing my digital photographs when I am travelling. Moreover, it had a voice recorder should I decide to do a podcast on a spur.

Very sweet.

Something caught my eye recently though – The new Sony MP3 flash walkman, though it is only 1GB, it had this amazing capability of charging in just 3 minutes! Plus it was sleek, small and stylish.

$179 Singapore Dollars

I think it would be perfect for my long road journeys.

The difficult thing to do right now is to decide between the two. Which one do I choose?

*thinks*

*thinks*

*and ponders some more*

In the end … none!ย Let me pay the bills first and then see how much money I have left ๐Ÿ˜›

And compy is back again :)

Hooray! Thanks to my fabulously smart brother, compy is up and running again, even faster than before with a new mobo and processor.

My fabulous brother

So now compy’s specs are :

Pentium 4 Processor 2.8 GHz
1 GB ram (I need more actually)
120 gb HDD
NVidia Geforce4 MX 4000 (I should update this)
1 DVD RW drive
1 CD RW drive
Sound blaster audigy sound card
and other paraphernalia ๐Ÿ™‚

This is impressive because I’ve had this compy since 2002! And I really don’t want to change it since it was a birthday gift and I feel quite attached to compy. We’ve gone through so much together and he’s remained pretty faithful to me all these while.

Now back to regular blogging ๐Ÿ™‚

It shuts down by itself

Oh bother!

Computer problems again!

Its like I’m always having problems with computers, like in here and here. Computers – Cant live without them but I cant live with them either …

Curse youuuuuu computerrrrrrrrrr!!!

Linux is facinating cool

I’ve gone to the dark side … No, not really. But I’m quite geeked up with the new Ubuntu Linux software that I just received this evening.

I was quite surprised when I opened the mailbox to see this:

Then I realised that I signed up for an Ubuntu Linux CD some weeks ago.

I’ve always been facinated by different operating systems – having played around with the Mac OS and then with the Linspire linux OS (which I really liked)

So when I stumbled upon the Ubuntu website, I immediately signed up for a free copy (shipping is free even! Can you believe it?)

Oooh the cover looks pretty spiffy:

There are two cd’s in each cover, one for complete installation and the other one is a live demo – nothing is intalled permanently in the computer, but all the features are there, but since it runs on the cd, it’ll be much slower.

I used the ‘live cd’ to see what are the different features that they had in the software. Installation was smooth and easy. No wierd messages asking me to key in some dos commands like the knoppix linux cd.

And after a few minutes, I saw the ubuntu linux desktop and from what I see, it wasnt difficult to use at all!

Its similar to XP even, with application programs bunched up to one group and the control panel bunched up in another group. It was really easy to use. I was extremely amazed.

One of the different games in Ubuntu

But what was more amazing is the different programs in the cd – they were all free as it is an open source program. And it was definitely comparable to commercial programs that there are out there. Can you imagine programs that would normally cost about $200 being distributed for free?

Linux instant messenger (works with Msn, Yahoo, Aim, Icq and a few others more)

Chatting on instant messengers was a breeze with different IM’s being integrated into one – I didnt have any problems whatsoever talking to friends on the typical os

Linux version of Powerpoint and Word using Open office

It doesnt feel strange to surf in linux as it uses firefox which made it very familliar. It supports many internet based applications such as flash player

Linux version of photoshop

Mmm … very nice. Very nice indeed. Now the only question is – To install or not to install.

Very very tempted

Computers hate me!

Computer problems again.

And it won’t go to my OS at all after restarting and will stay at that blue screen.

I think its because of my overzealousness in trying different softwares again. The ironic part is, I’m conducting a course on ‘protecting your computer’ this afternoon. Looks like I’m going to do another reformatting when I come back from work today.

Oh, I’m ambivalent now.

Anyhows, a few nice things did happen to me.

My Ng, one of the heads of the department, gave the female staff, wild orchids that was planted in the school. It’s so delicately pretty. I love the rich colour ๐Ÿ™‚

And look! Japanese Kit-kats! A colleage passed me some as his girlfriend visited Japan last week and brought some back. O I love the cherry blossom design. Too pretty to eat.

And to top it all, I earned some money from selling a cartoon of my Nimmo and friends character from zazzle.com! It’s not a huge amount, but its a start ๐Ÿ™‚ *smooches customer*

Anyway. Back to compy. Need me a new computer. Someone sponsor me please. I’ll be the perfect embassador. Call me Acer. Call me Fujitsu. Call me Sony.

ANYBODY! Call me … Please?

No?

Ah .. well, back to work.
