Cart is arriving today!

Its quite a flurry of activities this week.

On thursday, my inlaws arrived in Singapore. I met them for a short while at their hotel and took them around Orchard Road for a bit. They were as nice and warm as ever. But then I remembered that my Italian sucked, thus our conversation was a little awkward. Regardless, I was very happy to see them again.

Rinaz inlaws

They left for Malaysia in the morning and will be back in time before the solemnization.

Friday was my last day of work. I’m definitely going to miss this place and remember it fondly. After all, I’ve been here for the past 3 and a half years. Naturally, one would feel a bond after being in a place for a while.

Zarina, Marina and Shirin

And yesterday, despite the fact that I thought that it was rather unnecessary to get new furniture, Juli and I were scouring around for furniture in my room to make it more “bridal” like, heeding mum’s advice.

Different types of wood

And when I reached home, I spent about 5 hours non stop, making phone calls to friends, inviting them to the wedding. Although facebook has been very useful so far, sometimes its good to just have that human touch.

Some of these calls, are calls which has been more than its due. I guess that the internet makes me take for granted as its more convenient to use internet applications.

A stack of invitations

And Cart will be arriving today! I’m so excited. I miss him so much. And in less than a week will be our solemnization. I cant wait ๐Ÿ™‚

With that, Marina’s Bloggariffic will go into a semi hiatus. However, I hope to have a live streaming of the solemnization this coming Thursday and the reception on the following Saturday.

Not sure how to go about doing that, although the guys of tech65 might have something up their sleeves. Oh, and if there is anyone know where I could rent a projector, I’d appreciate it a lot ๐Ÿ™‚

Sidenote : Friends, please let me know your mailing address so that I can send you an invitation ๐Ÿ™‚

P.S. I’m in love all over again … ๐Ÿ™‚

My first Shisha experience

I was hankering of some lamb chops and Vandalin recommended me to go to Nasrin. At first look, I thought that I was in the wrong place. Nasrin’s doesn’t look like a restaurant. At the time I was there, there were only people smoking Shisha. The place looks very spartan and there is no decoration whatsoever.

Nasrin - Baghdad Street, Singapore

I was rather perplexed that in the end, I decided to give Deli Moroccan a second chance and I was glad to find the food standard there much better than when I first visited there.

Regardless, Vandalin insisted that Nasrin did serve food and I went there again, together with Nadnut, Xizor and Chillycraps.

We ordered the shawarna as the appetizer.

Nasrin - Baghdad Street, Singapore

This picture really doesn’t do it justice. The shawarna plate is delightful! I’m not so big on fries but I find myself enjoying them a lot, it was crispy and sprinkled generously with paprika, making it savoury.

The chicken bits were tender and the hummus below it was fantastic! In just a few minutes the plate was completely clean!

Nasrin - Baghdad Street, Singapore

And I completely love my lamb chops. This is probably one of the best lamb chops that I’ve had. I liked the grilled smoky taste. The meat was tender and juicy with just the right amount of fat.

Again the picture doesn’t do it justice, but my lamb chops were yum!

But apart from lamb chops, Nasrin was known to be a great chilling place with with friends just hanging out with shisha.

Shisha has been something that I was curious with for the longest time. Thus at the end of our meal, we decided to give it a go.

Here is a quick montage of our shisha session :

It was an interesting first time experience for me. Don`t think that I’d be doing it again though. Remember kids, its not that great for the lungs!

Congratulations Singapore Team in the Brand’s Mental Challenge!

I was at the Geek Terminal this week to give my support to the Malaysia and Singapore Bloggers in the first ever Mental Challenge hosted by Brands.

There was a sense of excitement in the air. By the time I reached there, the competition was already undergoing halfway and the audience were enraptured at the action in front of them. I found an empty seat and looked around.

At that point of time, the scores were 9 to Malaysia and 4 to Singapore.

Brands Blogger Mental Challenge

That was where I noticed Eastcoastlife, Endoh and Sheylara and two other guys whom I later came to know as Wilfrid and Aaron.

Brands Blogger Mental Challenge

Here they were doing a word challenge in which they were to create as many words as possible from the following letters.

Brands Blogger Mental Challenge

The Malaysian Team who consisted of Red Diva, Sultan Mufazzar, KY, Suanie and Babe in the City were hard at work, scribbling as many word combinations as possible.

Brands Blogger Mental Challenge

9 to 4 was such a large gap. I felt nervous for the competitors and can only imagine how it would be for the contestants themselves.

But it was when the results from the word challenge was announced, was when the marks were turned around with Malaysia having 40 and Singapore 44. There was hope! And it was so exciting!

With the proceeding rounds, I sat at the edge of the chair rather nervewrecked as the competitors trudged on. There were a number of very interesting questions such as memory recall questions, word association questions as well as the popular ball in a cup question.

Below is a short montage of the event :

I had to chuckle out loud when Endoh and Red Diva had to answer which cup the chick was under – the cup was spinning so fast!

Slowly Singapore collected the points and emerged victorious with the final score of 54 to 47. Woah!

But of course, it was all in good spirits with the Malaysian team being a very good sport out of it as it all boils down to having fun.

Brands Blogger Mental Challenge

I had a short chat with the competitors and was really happy to find that the Malaysian team to be very friendly, witty and down to earth. It was refreshing to hear them talk of the things that interests them without any airs at all despite the fact that they had a very high following on their respective blogs.

Thank you Selena and Matthew and Brands for having me as a guest. I had a very lovely time and though I still am not confident in participating, hopefully there would be something like this again next year! ๐Ÿ™‚

A day of vanities

As a member of Cozycot, I cant help but to notice that the regular announcements of events for the members to participate. These events range from health, to beauty to fitness.

I was curious to see how these events went, hence I clicked to RSVP one of the event – the grand opening of Anthony Hair Boutique. I thought that it would be interesting to see the various hair demonstrations.

Rinaz and Anthony Tang of Anthony Hair Boutique

I met the owner of the boutique and celebrity hairdresser, Anthony Tang and was impressed by his repertoire, his team has won the international hair dresser competition for 5 consecutive year.

But nothing beats seeing the master crafting his work in front of you. He did 5 hairstyles in 5 – 10 minutes each!

I am duly floored.

Claudia informed me of a Majorlica makeover and I couldnt help but to say yes! I love makeovers ๐Ÿ™‚

The makeover was held at Takashimaya. Unfortunately, when I reached Orchard, it was raining heavily. When I arrived, I was rather unglamorously soaked that Nadnut and Claudia looked a little shocked at my disposition.

But no matter.

Pamela of Sisheido and Rinaz

I met Sisheido representative, Pamela, and under her meticulous care, did my makeover for me.

This is me before :

And this is after the makeover :

I think we look really really good. Nadnut looks sexeh vavavoom! Claudia looks extremely lovely. And I’ve never seen my eyes has ever looked that large before. A little scary, no? ๐Ÿ˜›

Sidenote : Congratulations to the Singapore team for winning the first Brand’s Blogger Mental Challenge ๐Ÿ™‚

Sidenote 2 : Any ladies interested in participating in a makeup course for about $15 – $25? Only thing is, we need a minimum group of 10 to start.

I don’t think I’m good enough for the Brands Blogger Challenge

Personally for me, I’ve always been interested in how the brain functions.

I find it fascinating at how some people have such great memory that they were able to recollect a list without hesitation. Thus that is why one of the person that I look up to is Tony Buzan – a person who is well known for his Mind Mapping Techniques and Memory Skills.

Tony Buzan Use Your Head

In fact when I have a child, I’m contemplating on using the Glenn Doman or even the Suchida method of growing up my baby. I think that it would be very beneficial.

Suchida uses mental powers

Regardless, I still do not feel confident of my memory skills. There are days when I just blank out completely.

So when Burson-Marsteller contacted me into participating in the Brand’s Singapore-Malaysia Blogger’s mental challenge, while other bloggers were excited about it, I just freaked out.

What if they asked really difficult IQ questions with difficult mathematical calculations that only a rocket scientist could answer? I’d be such a disgrace to all of the Singapore blogger community.

Brands Singapore Malaysia Blogger Challenge

Recently, I received a pack containing two weeks worth of Brands Chicken Essence which was very thoughtful, as it was one of the things that I consumed especially during my school examination period.

But my palpitations started again when I opened the ‘Brain Training Kit’

These are two of the 9 practice cards. I don’t even know where to start. Can I really do this? Just looking at the cards is stressful.

Rinaz Cry

Thank goodness the organizers told me later that due to overwhelming popularity, I was exempted from the challenge. I took a deep breath of gratitude. Phew!

Regardless, I would love to come down to support the event. If you are interested in it too, it will be held on the 3rd of December from 11am – 1pm at Geek Terminal ๐Ÿ™‚

Painting my room for the first time ever

For a very long time, my room was a shade of pink.

Rinaz Paint Job

But after numerous constructive criticisms by my mum to spruce it up in time for the wedding, I finally picked up the paintbrush and started painting my room.

Rinaz Paint Job

I’ve never painted before. After several advices from my friend on painting techniques, I bought some paint, a roller brush and a paint tray. After some trepidation, I dipped the brush in the paint and drew the brush up and down.

It was surprisingly therapeutic,ย like doing a giant pedicure.

Rinaz Paint Job

And after 2 days of musty clothes, splattered slacks and several cold drinks …

Rinaz Paint Job

My new wall! I know this is probably very mundane but I’m so proud of myself. I think it looks pretty good for someone who’s never painted before.

Countdown to solemnization

This is it.

Less than 30 days to our solemnization.

At this point of time, I’m still scurrying on some things that needs to be tied up. My dad’s been busy sending the wedding cards, mum’s been busy with sewing clothes and I’ve been busy mostly with the processing of the documents needed for the marriage.

And honestly, I feel so unprepared and unready for the whole ceremony. I worry sometimes that in the end, we could not get married for something that I forgotten to do. Lately I’ve been having anxiety attacks over the entire events.

But I’m not having cold feet. I love him very much. He has been so kind and patient, gentle and loving to me. And though I don’t know what the future brings for me, I cannot wait for to spend the rest of my days with him.

I like makeovers!

I love makeovers. I love how with a dab of makeup and a bit of hairspray can transform a woman.

This is one of me done in 2004

Rinaz makeover 2004

This was during an Estee Lauder promotion. I think paid for a redeemable voucher for $30 where we could choose 4 looks for ourselves. I choose the dramatic makeover with emphasis on the eyes and lips. The makeup was really pretty, but it doesn’t really look like me.

This is one in 2005

Rinaz makeover 2005

I was given a “free makeover” from Coverlooks which turns out to be a floozy, as a photo costs $10 each. Regardless, I did like the softer, rich taitai look ๐Ÿ˜€

Today, I was at Vivocity for a complimentary makeover session with Nadnut courtesy of Samsung.

Nadnut Makeover Samsung Makeup Store

There we met the very talented ladies, Sarah and Joey who did our hair and make up for us.

Look at all those makeup on the table. I love it! I’d love to have THIS type of vanity table for my room. Its awesome!ย So many lights!

Sarah deftly dabbed shades of brown on my eyes, soft pink for my cheeks as well as light pink lipstick. I usually use red lipstick, but this look looks surprisingly beautiful.

Rinaz makeover Samsung makeup store

I love my mod look! I wished that I had remembered to ask Sarah what shades she used so that I could at least try this look for myself ๐Ÿ™‚

And then it was Nadnut’s turn! When she was being made up, my hands were itchy to play with the Make Up Store cosmetics. There were so many beautiful colours that made me feel so euphoric.

And this is our final look. My hair looked quite Victorian while Nadnut had vavavoom curls. I think that if they had provided lighting, the picture quality would be even better, but this was good too ๐Ÿ™‚

Nice? You may now call me Datin Marina ๐Ÿ˜›

I survied the Amore Woman’s Day Out 2008!

Woman’s Day Out is a yearly women-only aerobic-based sporting event organized by the Singapore sports Council.

Amore Women's Day out

Though I’ve always been keen on to participating, it is only this year that I finally had the confidence to attend this event. Moreover, this could possibly be the last time that I participate in something like this.

SEXEH RINAZ!

Registering for the event was easy enough. All I had to do was to surf the website, give my particulars choose the activity that I wanted and paid $28. I chose the Aerobics Challenge 1 which consisted of the CardioLatino, CardioBlitz and Kickboxing.

A week before the actual event, I collected the Official T shirt and the number tag.

Amore Women's Day out

That day was quite memorable to me as in the middle of my journey to Millenia Walk, the heavens decided to pour its blessings on me. Even with my raincoat on, I was soaking wet. My sneakers went squish throughout as I walked in the upper-end shopping centre.

Unfortunately for me, on the actual day, I was rushing off from home and I’ve completely forgotten to bring my number tag along with me.ย And thats when the mayhem started.

I reached Ngee Ann Civic Plaza at about 3 pm. I’ve already missed an hour, having attended the Talkback session earlier on. Thus I was a little flustered upon reaching the registration booth.

Me : Hi! I need help. I forgot to bring my number tag, can you help me?

Helpers : Sorry, we cant let you in unless you have proof

Me : Here is my identity card.

Helpers : Sorry, can’t help you. We don’t have a computer database with us. You should get online instead and show us your verification email.

Me : Wha? Ok fine.

At that point of time, I felt snubbed that they were so unwilling to help me. I was wearing the official t-shirt! Why would anyone be lying just for the sake for entering the arena!

Luckily for me, I was carrying the eee pc and I went inside the shopping centre to try to find a connection.ย It was such a waste of time! Even though there were supposed to be about 7 to 10 open wireless@sg connection, I could not connect to any of them!

I spent about 30 mins walking around different areas and still nothing. Even asking the information counter was fruitless when they told me that there were no internet cafe in the shopping centre.

Rinaz Cry

I felt really frustrated and was really going out of my mind and felt so helpless that even as a grown woman, I began to cry out in public. The interesting thing was that no one even looked at me, which was a revelation as I thought we were the busybody type of society.

It was comforting to hear Mus and Vandalin‘s voice on the phone when I called them up. They helpfully snapped a picture of my email and mms’ed it to me.

Unfortunately, the mms never arrived. With only one hour left to go to my event, and not wanting to waste my time and effort getting here, and money paid for the event, I picked up the courage to march up the manager.

Me : How could you just push me away? Why can’t you guys make and effort to help me! I am wearing the official t-shirt! What other proof do you need!

Manager : I’m sorry, but this is a paid event. We cannot anyhow let people in.

The manager and I were both extremely pissed at this point of time. And then I remembered that I scribbled my confirmation number in my trusty manual PDA.

Manager : A confirmation number! You should have told me that earlier!

slapforehead

Finally she took my IC, gave me a new number tag and I was just in time to participate in the last hour of kickboxing. Which was good as I has so much anger inside that I kicked! I punched! I jabbed with all my might.

But the terrible experience prior notwithstanding, it was a very good workout as it was the most intensive workout that I had ever had. Even more challenging than any of the cardio that I’ve attended. I’m not sure if I would be able to survive the complete 3 hours!

But was such a thrill for me to see so many rosy cheeks around me. You should have been there. These ladies were truly glowing – its difficult for even the best cosmeticsย to recreate this.

Amore Women's Day out

Look at that! That’s gorgeous!

All in all, despite the drama earlier, I did enjoy myself. I dare say that it was one of the best workouts that I’ve ever had and though I’m feeling a little bit of an ache, its a good ache and I’d love to attend more events such as these.

Moreover, look at the fabulous goodie bag that I got after the event!

Amore Women's Day out

Here are just some of my swags as I pretty much already consumed all the food related stuff in there. I love my new bag. And looks like I don’t need to buy a new water-bottle! And there’s even mekap! Woohoo!

I survied the Amore Woman’s Day Out! And now I will collapse and die.

I finally meet the hosts of 938live!

It’s nice to finally see a face after hearing their voices on the radio for the longest time!

Keith De Souza and Barathi Jagdish with Rinaz and Mus

Next to me is Keith De Souza and Barathi Jagdish who are both the hosts for Fresh! – A programme on the radio that I tune in each morning on the station 938live.

Each weekday morning, they would open up an interesting topic to be discussed with the listeners, usually about current events and I emailed them about my thoughts some while back in response to a caller who thought that the Singapore National Anthem should be changed from Malay to English.

I was pleasantly surprised to see a reply from Barathi that my email was read on air and I was given an invite to participate in their live talkback outdoors session. I asked around if there were anyone interested and thus, I was accompanied by the two handsomes Mus and Vandalin.

938 Talkback Outdoors at Gloria Jeans

It was a very interesting session for me. At the risk of sounding geeky, it felt like a Secondlife discussion! – We sat in down to listen to the panelists and can join in the discussion at any time.

I really enjoyed hearing the different thoughts and opinions, regardless if I agreed with them or not.

The first topic of discussion was :

Are we a sporting nation? Do we support our local athletes enough? Do we encourage our children to take part in sports? Are we ready to host big international sporting events?

938 Talkback Outdoors at Gloria Jeans

We were joined by National Swimmer, Teresa Goh, her dad, Senior Parlimentary Secretary of the MCYS, Teo Ser Luck, as well as sports editor, Raj Kumar.

938 Talkback Outdoors at Gloria Jeans

There was a parent whoย said that schools should be more proactive in spotting out young talents and to groom them into sportsmen with more sports activities to be made compulsory in schools.

I thought to myself, why do we always have to depend on the schools when it should be the task of the parents more. If you see that your child is good and interested in an activity, regardless of what it is, why wait for the school when you can do something about it?

And Mus added, an institution could have the best policies in the world, but if the child isn’t interested, there isn’t much point to it.

The second topic was :

Is the job market too competitive? What employment issues do you face? Do women face problems going back to work? What do you feel about the employment of foreign talent?

We were joined by MP for Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC Josephine Teo. I couldn’t catch the other panelist’s name.

938 Talkback Outdoors at Gloria Jeans

I was a little cheesed off when there were one foreigner commented, “Why are Singaporeans so afraid of us taking over jobs when they are not skilled enough to fill them up?”

In any case, it was quite an experience to sit in a discussion. It has been a while since I’ve seen a real life debate and I really did enjoyed myself.

Thank you Mus and Vandalin, it was wonderful to have your company and insightful thoughts. Can’t wait to go to the next one ๐Ÿ™‚

Sidenote : Can anyone notice something interesting here?
