Ramadan is here again!

Its amazing how time flies by so quickly and now its already the first day of Ramadan!

Muslim men walking towards the gates after the prayers

Ramadan is a month where muslims abstain from eating from dawn to dusk. Personally for me, I like this month as it heightens my mental clarity, and I can focus better without the distractions of the need to feed.

When I first started my full day fast at about 9 years old, it felt like such an achievement for me to do what the ‘big people’ were able to do.

Now that I’ve grown older, I’ve come to realise that this month isnt only about our non consumption of food and beverage but a dedication on our spiritual, mental and physical selves.

With this, I wish everyone a beautiful month of ramadan :)

rinaz: i agree… fasting is not just about not eating. it’s about mental clarity and focusing on the spiritual level of oneself.

Yes, its a matter of endurance of mind, physical and spiritual - we think positively, that we can achieve it, the physical awareness during the fast and spiritual feeling of achievement :)

You havent tried yet, so how would you know? I think if you wanted to give it a try, you could go for a 1/2 day fast - wake up early to have your breakfast and then go without food or water till about 1pm or so and then slowly increase the time.

I’m sure you can do it :)

Geylang serai outing? Sounds good :) Maybe during the 2nd or 3rd weekend of ramadan would be nice. I was there before raya in 2005 before the demolishing of the ‘old geylang’

The place is much different now. I wonder how different it looks now with ramadan :)
