The 88 eyeshadow palette is loads of fun!

I got for myself the 88 eye-shadow palette some months back from a livejournal spree. I was really fascinated by the multitude of colours. And after using it for some while now, I love it heaps!

88 Eyeshadow Palette

What I love about the 88 eye-shadow palette is that you can experiment with different looks without worrying about wasting your make-up. At about $26 per palette it is even more affordable than the 2-4 colour eye-shadows being sold in regular stores.

My problem with many eye-shadows is that many of them aren’t vivid enough on my eyes. But personally, I think that the quality of the 88 palette eye-shadow is just as good and perhaps even better than the ones in regular stores in the sense that the colour pay-off is surprisingly excellent.

Take a look at this!

Green Eyeshadow

Nice?  I love it as it’s bright and cheery! I did not even add in any eye-shadow primer to it.

Though I’m not as good at eye makeup as most of the ladies in Cozycot or the makeup guru’s out there, I really think that this looks nice.

Let me show you how

88 Eyeshadow Palette

I chose these three colours as circled in the picture.

Step 1

With the darkest colour, the turquoise, glide it through at the base of the eyelids.

Step 2

Make a surprised face like this!

Then take the lime green colour and sweep it over the curves of your eyeball. This will naturally blend with the top of the turquoise.

Step 3

Finally add the beige as a highlighter, below the eyebrow which acts as a guide. Gently blend the meeting colours so as to not have harsh lines.

And then add eye-liner and mascara if you want to and you’re done!

Simple right? Even a make-up dummy like me can do it. If rinaz can mekap, so can you!

Updated August 2009: Now that I’ve used the palette for several months now, and use it more regularly, I think that

  • The colour tends to crease after some hours
  • I notice that I tend to use only certain colours
  • I need to swatch the colours on my own skin – what you see isn’t always what you get

Thus, I would recommend it more for people who are just starting out with eye-shadows.

Whee!

Somewhile back in August, there was a contest whereby readers give their thoughts about the touchsmart and the judges pick comments based on their creativity. The judges were impressed by Jurlique‘s entry in my HP post. And that made the both of us to win a HP Touchsmart each!

It was so unreal that it took us some time to the information to sink in. I really thought that Claudia was pulling my leg when she sms’ed me her congratulations.

But in the end, we finally saw the official email. Jurlique and I were both grinning from ear to ear when we finally hand the touchsmart in our hands.

And very recently, I was at the Samsung Innov8 event and participated in their photo taking contest whereby contestants were to take pictures with the theme of what inspires me about the phone.

Thus, I was walking around with Wishbone and I asked for her help as I re-enact some scenarios. In my mind, I already knew what type of shots I wanted to get.

Even though I was not confident of winning anything, I thought I’d give it my best shot anyways. I even told Wishbone, “If I win (which I know I wouldn’t) I’ll split this phone into two with you.

There were heaps of picture display which I took time to admire. In particular, I like Leonard’s picture of him with one eye shut with a silly grin – as the Innov8 had the smile shot and anti-blink function.

After we’ve done our presentation, we waited with in anticipation at the results and turns out that I was one of the winners for the Samsung Innov8!

I was most excited, surprised and happy that my hair started to magically curl.

Looks like I have to split the phone into two now 😛

But before I split it into two, I’ll post a review about it. I’ve been using it for about a week now and so far I’m liking it a lot.

Sidenote : Actually, there isn’t really a point to this blogpost. I just wanted to share the good news. Feel free to come over and play with my new toys 🙂

Selamat Hari Raya!

Selamat Hari Raya from Cart and Rinaz! For a change, I thought I’d dress Cart up in a songkok! Doesn’t he look smashing in them? 🙂

Anyways, I spend the last days cleaning my room as well as helping out in the kitchen.

With all the onion chopping and the chili blending, my hands feels as if it is on fire!

Regardless, on this Hari Raya, I would like to wish everyone Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri, maaf zahir batin! Forgiveness for our wrongdoings and words which are uttered accidentally 🙂

Help! I bought too much make up!

I was a completely well adjusted young adult till recently I’ve gone completely bonkers!

My, what big eyes you have

It all started innocently with Wishbone was recommending some cosmetics samples from Pure Luxe. I did some research on it, there were many good comments about it – especially this Rainbow Eyeshadow Tutorial, which impressed me.

I picked up the courage to order just a few items online. And this was what came in the mailbox some while after :

Later on, Sylvia posted about some links about free minerals sample kits which intrigued me. I ordered a sample kit from Everyday Minerals.

After using it for a while, I found out that I enjoyed using them – my skin took it well and I liked how natural it looked on me. And before I knew it, I started to click on the purchase button. And look at what came to me some weeks later.

Goodness!

And on top of that, I’ve also discovered LiveJournal sprees! I recently  got fascinated by this very colourful 88 Eye-shadow Palette and decided to get one for myself.

88 Eyeshadow Palette

The day I got the palette, even though I was not skilled at eye make up, I had a blast of a time trying out different eye looks. It was so exciting to me. I felt like a little girl given with a lot of colours to play with!

And for some reason, I was itching to try something new. I decided that I wanted a neutral palette this time. However, the one at Coastal Scents were a tad too expensive when I calculated the dollar conversion as well as the shipping charges.

It was only when I stumbled upon a seller from ebay. Based in Hong Kong, she was said to be the manufacturer of the palette. So I’m getting it direct!

This is my new 28 neutral eye-shadow palette. Isn’t this absolutely gorgeous? I love playing with all of my new colours! It’s so much fun!

At this point of time, some of my loves would be Pureluxe’s Nymph Blush as well as the Nymph-o-mania lip colour for its healthy, natural, yet sexeh shade 🙂

Unfortunately now, I have so much mekap now that my side table could hardly contain all of them that its spilling to the floor! Definitely no more cosmetics for me for now.

At least not until my next obsession.

I was cheated by a bus tout in Kuala Lumpur

I had the most harrowing experience ever in Kuala Lumpur. And I hope that you did not go through what I did. So I’m posting this to let everyone know and hopefully learn from our experience.

My mum and I spent the weekend in Kuala Lumpur to get some items for the wedding in an area called Masjid India, where there were plentiful of Malay wedding paraphernalia to be found.

After buying our items, we were ready to go home and we headed to Puduraya, which is a very famous bus interchange in Kuala Lumpur. When we went up to the ticketing counter, located on the second floor, there were about 20 touts hovering around us, hassling us to buy their tickets.

I asked them how much the tickets costs. First it was RM$35. Which I thought was really expensive as the standard price was RM $25. But after using their walkie talkies, they then suddenly raised the price to RM $40.

There was this female tout who suddenly grabbed my arm and told me sarcastically not to be fussy and just buy her $40 Ringgit ticket as everyone else was selling it at the price.

Surrounded in a chaotic situation, I got annoyed and shot back at her, “Its my money! I’ll spend it how I like!” And in the corner, I heard someone shout out $60 Ringgit as a ticket price. That’s so outrageous!

There were a number of ticket counters – about 60 altogether. My mum and I walked over to one counter that we knew was legitimate – The Causeway Express. It was 2 pm at the time.

Unfortunately, the 2.30 pm coach was sold out and the next earliest coach was at 5.30 pm.

Not wanting to wait for 3 hours, we had to relent and buy one from another counter where most of the touts were swarming. I found a ticket being sold at $35 for a bus leaving at 3.15 and at the specified time, my mum and I went to the platform and a coach came in. According to the ticket, it had the bus number and I was supposed to enter it.

But there was a man at the entrance and after checking our ticket, he said that both mum and I were not allowed to enter. He told us that it was not our bus and that the next bus would be arriving soon. I was surprised but we waited anyway as there were other passengers who were in the same predicament as us.

Another bus went by and once again the same thing, someone checked our ticket and would not let us in, saying that our bus will be the next bus.

The same thing repeated over the next hour.

One hour! I was losing my temper and started to show my displeasure at one of the touts. They were rude and extremely unprofessional. They shouted at us, told us to wait and never gave an apology or pacified us for being late.

All of a sudden, we were herded to another platform and told to wait for the coach there. I was highly suspicious. What were we doing there? Why are we following them? Didn’t the ticket say that we were supposed to wait at this platform?

Eventually, there was a group of about 40 people which formed and we were hearded outside of the depot and walked towards where a coach was. Why here?

But at the time, I was grateful that we finally had a bus to sit on. It was already 6 pm. We had been waiting for the bus for over 3 hours!

But just as I was getting comfortable on the bus, there were two guys with the walkie talkies entered, checked our tickets again and said, this ticket is 35 ringgit. Seats in this bus costs 40 ringgit. You need to give another 5 ringgit.

I was EXTREMELY upset.

You made us wait for 3 hours and we still have to pay YOU more money? You should be compensating us instead!

Instead, he spouted some sort of bullshit about oil prices being expensive and that the bus needs at least $1500 Ringgit for its journey and that the bus will not move if he does not meet the amount.

There was a person sitting in front of me who could not tolerate it and the both of them escalated in a shouting match. Eventually, the ticket-checker challenged the passenger to meet his boss and grabbed his arm and the both of them very nearly fought in the bus.

But in the end, being pressured to go home, unwillingly they topped up the amount.

My mum was being very brave. She calmly told the ticket-checkers to settle it among themselves as they both has checked our tickets repeatedly and has never mentioned anything about the ticket being $40 and that they were the ones who lead us here.

I heard the guy mention to the other guy, “Lets just forget about the ulat (illegal-profit) for these ones”

And that was when I realised that we have been conned. How can it be? After all, we bought our tickets from a legitimate counter! All sorts of thoughts went through my mind wildly.

After the long bus journey back to Larkin (a bus interchange in Johore Bahru) I noticed that we did not enter the bus interchange either. I was surprised. The passenger sitting next to me then explained that unlicensed drivers don’t enter the bus interchange as they do not want to be caught.

So we’ve were in an unlicensed bus. We were cheated! We were sold fake tickets by a counter and handled by a tout!

I’ve travelled by coach a number of times before but this must have been the most incredibly worst ever experience that I’ve ever had while travelling in Malaysia. I really don’t want to go through this again!

But its made us all the wiser. And I hope that you don’t experience the same thing that we went through. So if you are travelling to Kuala Lumpur, my advice to you is to always book a legitimate bus service and get your tickets in advance before you leave.

Some of the credible services a

  • Causeway Link
  • Transnational
  • Mara Liner

Colleagues has also adviced me to take the coach from IMM or from Jurong Point and they allow two way travel.

Do NOT at any circumstances ever take the bus from Delima Express nor buy from the counter 93. The bus that we took has the plate number BGU 3615.

Even Malaysians are tired of the Puduraya Touts as seen in these blogposts here and here. If you know anyone who’s travelling to Malaysia by coach, please feel free to forward this post to them.

Guess what day it is today?

Rinaz and Cart Toon carrying a birthday cakeIts interesting that years back, I would have been dreading for this day, but as time passed, I’ve actually gotten accepting of the fact.

For some reason, there is always a stigma especially for Asian women to be labelled as ‘off the shelf’ and ‘unmarriagable’ when they reach this age.

But reflecting back, I feel more accepting of myself nowadays. I feel more beautiful, more confident, more healthy now as compared to just a few years before! And I feel blessed for the people whom I have met and love. Actually, I don’t think I’d want to go back to the awkward phase of a teenager again!

Nimmo by Rinaz

Even with some unpleasant encounters throughout my life, its just part and parcel that is a learning experience for me.

Morrie Schwartz once said, “There is nothing to be envious of the young ones. We’ve already done that. We’ve so much to look forward to”

And I think that I’ve so much to look forward to. Happy birthday, me 🙂

Rinaz is a finalist in the Omy Blogawards!

Truth be told I wasn’t really keen on promoting the Omy blogawards.

First of all, the website was really hard to navigate. Moreoever, I’m not Chinese. It seemed kind of a juxtapose to be in a mainly Chinese website. And looking through the list of the people that I’d be competing with, these people are really the big guns! Eastcoastlife? Sheylara? Ohmyblog! They have got like a zillion fans!

*shivers*

But after thinking for a while, I realised that I was picked out of a list of over 100 nominees. Plus, Mintea revealed that it was she was the one who nominated me. It would be disappointing if I didn’t even try!

So here I am, fighting for your love! Please vote for me if you think that I am deserving 🙂 Who knows, you might win a chance to Bangkok, Ho Chin Minh or Phuket!
