Claire and I were on our weekly mischief and we thought about stopping by McDougals for a milkshake. Despite the flak about McDougals, I don’t mind it so much when it comes to their cheap milkshakes.
Anyway, there was one just opposite of the Pantheon.
Imagine our surprise when we saw this :
Closed for business. Which is strange because it’s located in a very high traffic area which means that it’s impossible that they were not able to make a profit, right?
But this was not the first McDougals that has closed for business, this one in Piazza Sydney Sonnino, in the Trastevere area was closed too.
But I remember that it was bustling the very first time that I visited Rome. I wonder if McDs is not doing well in Rome.
Sidenote : Yes … yes … I know it’s spelled McDonalds but McDougals sound more charming.
haha, there’s so much good food to eat in italy… u don’t need mcdonald’s! 🙂
I’ll play the devil’s advocate here because there is no other place that I know of where you could get cheap desserts 😛
The same thing happened to Burger King in the centre of Venice abt some months ago.
It was always crowded and yet now there’s no BK around me anymore 🙁
That’s what made me confused. If it’s popular, it means they are making money right? So I don’t understand why they would close down.
The one near Piazza Navona/Campo dei Fiori closed too.
Good riddance. Unfortunately, Subway is here.
Now if Chiptole were to come to Rome, that would be great. Burritos are not easy to find. But Subway makes no sense to me.
Hahaha, I don’t think I’ve even had the chance to see the McD’s there! Boy, this is like an endangered species watch. You’d never know which branch will be phased out next!
Hi I came across your blog searching for blogs in Rome and I love it! I am also an expat living here and love meeting new people. If possible maybe we can chat by email and maybe meet up ?
Ive been here for 4 years and never knew that Rome had so many mcdonalds! I second the comment above me for a chipotle 🙂 i miss tex-mex food.
Hi Karla,
How do you like Rome so far after 4 years? Rome still has plenty of McDougals. It’s pretty much in every neighbourhood, to which I’ve noticed 🙂
