rinaz wins 2007 weblog awards - best asian blog

Marina’s Bloggariffic is the winner for the 2007 Weblog Awards – Best Asian Blog! This is so surreal. YAY!

I can most definitely not have made it without the help and support of everyone whom voted, cartcart, my PR Managers, my wonderful blogger friends from ping.sg, my colleagues and especially from Hisyam whom has been unbelievably supportive of me since the beginning of the competition.

Of course, at the same time, there will be detractors that say that the weblog awards is nothing more but a popularity contest. And in a way, I do agree – but at the same time, I have to emphasize that I have put in time and effort to research, to showcase and share the experiences that I’ve gone through. Just read through the archives. To negate this fact is personal to me.

Not to say that the competitors are less worthy. Among the list, I think that both Terroir Byte and Webbed Feet are wonderful bloggers, each of them writes about their point of view in a fascinating and engaging fashion.

With that said, I agree with Footsteps in the mirror saying that this competition needs to have someone who has thick skin – I find myself psychologically trapped, deperately doing everything I humanly can to get votes – from mass posting in friendster, daily twitter messages, messaging everyone on msn to the point of some getting hostile by it, as well as approaching colleagues to have votes – trust me, it’s not as easy as it looks. We worked really hard.

Anyways as a closing thought, I really thank everyone who’s voted from the bottom of my heart, and gosh, I won passes to the Blogworld Expo in Las Vegas! I wish I could go! I would have liked to meet Matt Mullenweg, one of the developers of WordPress, as well as Kevin Aylward and Sean Gleeson from Weblogawards. Argh!

p.s. Yes, yes, I owe you guys 385 cups of coffee @ Geek Terminal. Lets set a date after my exams! πŸ˜€

  2. Congrat to you.

I agreed that this weblog awards is nothing more but a popularity contest. They should had hired real professional judges to give these awards.

If they don’t have the monies, they should called it as “Favourite Asian Blog”, not “Best”.

Thanks for dropping in and for the comment.

Even though I agree, that these kind of contests can be biased based on popularity votes, I have to emphasize that I believe that my blog has alot of quality posts that focus on alot of things based on what I experience, especially about my life in Singapore.

Of course, not everyone would agree about, what is ‘best’ because everyone is subjective and has their own preference in their own way.

But please dont discredit me or the finalists (and the nominees either) because they are all worthy and unique in their own style of writing.

Why not read the FAQ for the weblog awards here and here.

This blog has won, fair and square.

If you’re unhappy, why not participate in the Blogging to fame awards where you will be judged by a panel of 3 judges. Or better yet, create your own blog contest πŸ˜€

I’m still in Singapore right now, hehehe but we’re still planning on the wedding and the move πŸ™‚

Its just very annoying and childish. I did anticipated hate comments because people do have their own thinking. But I was hoping that they would make more logic and reasoning rather than the inane comments that they are making.

    I dont mind intellectual banter.

But childish comments completely put me off. I dont want to waste time with people who are too dense to do research on their own and instead blame other people for their own mistakes.

    *annoyed*

Err … I still havent extracted the graduation pictures yet, still busy with the exams …argh!

    *runs away*

    Edroos

Yeah! 385 people cant be wrong! *beams* πŸ˜€ Hehehehe

    Matahari

Thank you so much πŸ™‚ You’ve been so sweet to me πŸ™‚

    Gary

Thank you for the sweetest comments there! *hugs*

You dont have anything to worry πŸ™‚ I’d never stop blogging and will persevere to the best of my abilities. I think that everyone has their own unique story to tell, in their own point of view! And my personal enjoyment is the sharing of these stories.

My only worry is that if anyone would continue to read them … Hehehehe
