I think each culture has its own charm, in Thailand, if I am not wrong, lovers write their name on a paper boat to be sailed away and in Japan, lovers write their names on a piece of cloth to be tied on a tree.

In Chinese custom, lovers throw oranges in the sea if I am not wrong.
